Altyn-Arashan: A Paradise of Hot Springs and Alpine Majesty

Altyn-Arashan (Golden Spring) is nestled in an alpine valley that looks like it came straight from a postcard. Situated at an elevation of 3000 meters, it is dominated to the south by Peak Palatka, standing tall at 4260 meters in the eastern part of the Terskey Alatau range, near the city of Karakol. The gorge is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kyrgyzstan due to its unique nature, hot springs located directly in the gorge, extensive  forests, and stunning views.

This nature reserve, established in 1963, boasts a unique combination of features that attract tourists far and wide.

What makes Altyn-Arashan so special?

  • Stunning Scenery: Lush spruce forests blanket the valley, creating a picturesque backdrop for the majestic peaks.

  • Healing Hot Springs: Located at the remarkable altitude of 2,600 meters, Altyn-Arashan's hot springs are famous for their

therapeutic properties. Rich in radon and hydrogen sulfide, the springs maintain high temperatures year-round (35°C for radon and 41°C for hydrogen sulfide). Some springs are enclosed in pools, while others remain "wild" in natural grottos or stone-carved baths.

  • The Adventure Begins: Reaching Altyn-Arashan requires an adventurous spirit, as the unpaved roads demand skilled drivers. But the journey itself is rewarding, with opportunities to encounter hidden hot and cold springs nestled amidst the pine forests.
